Many Thomaston residents are familiar with the early section of town known as Mill River Village, or Mill Creek Village by the locals, but few know the extent of its size and importance since it has vanished from today’s landscape. Could there be anything more intriguing than the disappearance of a once thriving village that served not only Thomaston, but East Thomaston (Rockland) and South Thomaston as well?

The Mill Creek Village ‐ Lost and Found three‑dimensional diorama, slide show, and talk were created by local resident and historian, Peggy McCrea. For years she researched early deeds, census reports and history resources to learn all she could about this once bustling and prosperous town center from 1800 to about 1850. For those familiar with Old Sturbridge Village, Mill Creek Village would be an equal size, if not larger.

Below are links to the “Mill Creek Village ‐ Lost and Found” slide show and a video of the slideshow with audio that includes a timed recording Peggy created in preparation for her Watts Hall Community Arts presentation on June 14, 2024.
