The house was probably built on the Mall in Thomaston around September 1846 after the lot was purchased by Captain Joseph Wilson (1812-1860). The present two-and-a-half story house is a five-ranked Federal box form embellished in Greek Revival style. The front entry, consisting of a transom light or window over the crosspiece above the door with full length sidelights along either side of the door, was updated within the last 25-30 years, but repeats the style of the period. Pilasters emulating Greek columns are on both sides of the entry with a classical entablature above the surround.
